Centenary Square is a popular public square in Central Birmingham. The square is a work of art in itself, with paving, railings and lamps designed by artist Tess Jaray.

Case Study 2 – Topographical Survey (Centenary Square, Birmingham) centenary square

Completed in September 2013 The Library of Birmingham stands prominent on the north side and at time of writing has been shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize for Architecture award.

Click the PDF’s and see if you can spot the keyhole formed out of the void to the library lower floor and the surrounding paving and landscaping in the square.

Aimcon Surveys Limited were instructed to produce a detailed 3D topographical survey of this square and the adjoining Broad Street. The survey was produced using Leica Total stations and the grid and levels were related to the Ordnance Survey National Grid.
